Day 1

  • Airport pick up in Mali airport, Alor then heading to Takpala village
  • We will be welcomed with cultural performances by the Takpala villagers.

Takpala people are well-known for their traditional lifestyle and the absence of technology in their village because they still practice their ancestors’ local wisdom. So, we will arrange photo sessions for your interests, such as human interests (will be assisted by photography assistant who will direct reflector/flash to the models according to the photographer instructions).

You can also take beautiful photos about Takpala community traditional way of living, Takpala warriors and war dances, as well the beautiful landscape and architecture of the Takpala houses. This village also has a beautiful spot for watching amazing sunset.

We will have lunch in Takpala together with the community, we will have traditional food made from the freshest ingredients. You can also tell us if you have certain food preferences/allergies so we can prepare the menus accordingly.

Tonight we will stay in Takpala’s traditional house which are lit by bamboo torches. For your information, there is no electricity here, so we will help you if you want to charge your cameras’ batteries and cellphones in the neighbouring village. So, you can have them back in 2 hours or more.


Note:

  1. During the photo sessions in Takpala, MALA Tours will provide photography assistant to hold the reflector and charge the cameras batteries in the neighbouring village, because in Takpala there is no electricity.
  2. Lunch, Dinner and afternoon snack are provided by MALA Tours and the Takpala community.


Day 2

  • In the morning, we will pick you up from Takpala village to heading to Mali beach, here we will have breakfast while enjoying sunrise.
  • After breakfast, we will heading to Lola market where barter still can be witnessed. There are many interesting photo objects and subjects that can be taken here such as street photography & human interests. We will have lunch in Lola market with Kaleso (traditional rice cake from Alor) and grilled lobster (if available within the market)
  • Then we will heading to Ling ‘al beach where we can camp for a night, snorkelling, swimming, trekking to the hills and take amazing photos of sunset and the daily life of fishermen in Ling ‘al village.
  • At night, we can have fresh seafood barbecue for dinner and can take amazing Star Trails photos, so prepare your tripod and batteries.

Day 3

  • Wake up in the morning to see sunrise in  Ling'al beach. Then have breakfast and morning coffee.
  • Then with motor boat we will heading to Pura Barat village in Pura island.
  • Arrived in Pura Barat, we will be entertained with Tarian Elang (Eagle dance), Lego-lego dance and Silat Kampung (traditional martial art). After having lunch with the community, we will see the process of making Sopi (local alcoholic drink with 40% alcohol content). Then we can see the cane work in making tenata (small bags used for beetle nut storage), bubu (traditional fish trap made from bamboo) and setting up the Bubu underwater by the fishermen. You are welcomed to witness the skilful Pura’s fishermen free-diving to set up the bubu underwater and the local kids cheerfully dive to shot arrows underwater and spear fishes. This is the daily life of Pura children. We advise you to have bring along underwater cameras and know your limit & skill to take interesting photographs of these activities. We will also provide assistance and guidance during the underwater photography sessions as well as life guards.
  • Afterwards, we are heading back to Alor Kecil harbor and then to Hula - the Kampong of Ikat weavers - where we can see the making of organic Ikat by using self-grown cotton, natural colourings from different kinds of leaves, tree barks and roots and several marine creatures such as squid, sea cucumber, sea weed, etc.
  • After enjoying coffee and afternoon snack in Kampong Hula, we will walk several meters to see the sunset in Tambak Garam (Salt Ponds), one of the best spots to enjoy sunset in Alor
  • Heading back to Kalabahi, then have dinner in Mama Restaurant with Alornese menus. Drop off at a hotel in Kalabahi.


Day 4

  • After breakfast in hotel, we will heading to Kampong Monbang in Kopidil village. This Kampong are known for local organic coffee that they mostly consume themselves. The photographers can take a lot of photographs while  the Kabola tribe in Monbang that use clothes made from the tree barks perform cultural traditions such as dances, the process of making their tree barks clothes and the making of organic coffee that they grow and process themselves.
  • After having lunch in Kampong Monbang, the participant will be drop off at the airport for catching the flight home.

MALA stands for our company name, Mandiri Alor Lestari Alam (Independent Alor & Sustainable Nature). The name resembles our strong commitment to promote Alor and eastern Indonesia tourism while preserving the nature and culture of the communities.
